A customer, who went to Mike to repair her car, left a very nice review on our Yelp account! Thanks so much, Laura, for the kind words!!
The review is posted below:
When batteries are not properly maintained, they can die, no matter how recently you purchased one; so it is important to properly maintain your batteries, in order to get your money’s worth!
Here are some of the reasons for why batteries die prematurely:
- Deep discharges, which occurs when you leave the battery running over night; ex: when you leave the lights on in your car.
- Using the wrong sized battery
- Overcharging, or under-hood heat, which causes loss of electrolytes.
- Not charging your batter enough
- Corrosion, which is caused by dirty, dusty and wet batteries
- Going six months or longer without charging your battery.
It’s important to properly maintain your battery, especially when it’s in storage! The last thing you want is for your battery to die at the wrong place at the wrong time!
For more information about battery life, and how to maintain, please give Batteries Unlimited a call at (508) 752-8777.
So far this winter has been a cold one…have you been properly maintaining your batteries that are in storage? If you haven’t you will be purchasing a new one come spring!
If you haven’t already, here is the proper way to maintain your batteries during winter:
- Disconnect Unused Battery
- Keep ‘Em Clean & Dry
- Recharge Battery Once Every Month
If you’re having your battery sit for a long period of time (during the winter season) it’s best policy to disconnect them; this is because some vehicles and boats use a little bit of power, even when they are turned off.
Be sure to keep your batteries dry and clean; if they are damp or dirty, corrosion may occur, which is one of biggest battery killers! You can clean your battery with a combination of baking soda and water. You will rinse it with clear water, and dry it with a towel.
An unused battery will “run out of juice” faster than a used battery, which is why it’s important to charge your battery at least once per month. Please be sure to use a charger that is made specifically for your battery brand; if you need help, we can help you select the right charger.
For more information about maintaining batteries that are in storage, please feel free to give Batteries Unlimited a call at (508) 752-8777. If you need any help finding new batteries for your boats and summer vehicles, please feel free to stop by our store in Worcester MA!
The batteries capacity and effectiveness will go down when the temperature gets colder, and go up when the weather is warmer; this is why, on a cold morning, your car won’t start, even though it was working fine the previous day.
If you have a boat or a motorcycle in storage, you should know that charging will change along with the weather; so if you’re storing a vehicle or a boat in the cold, you should compensate for temperature when you’re charging.
For more information about how temperature, particularly the cold, please call Batteries Unlimited at (508) 752-8777.
Now that summer is over, and we’re already entering into the summer season, you’re probably putting your summer toys (boats, motorcycles, four wheelers, etc.) into storage. Now that they are in storage, you probably don’t think too much about them during the summer; however, it would be a great idea to run some maintenance and checkups on the batteries, so that come spring they are ready to go.
You should disconnect the unused battery for all boats and vehicles that will not be in use until the spring. Any item that is not going to be in use for an extended period, i.e. a whole season, should have its battery disconnected; some vehicles draw a little power from their battery, even when they aren’t in use. What will this do to your vehicle? If you leave it connected, the vehicle could drain out the battery’s juice, meaning you will have to purchase a new one come spring time.
Do your best to keep batteries clean and dry during this cold and wet season! When batteries are wet or dirty, corrosion can occur, which is a battery’s biggest enemy! You can clean your batteries with a mixture of baking soda and water. Make sure you rinse with clear water, and wipe the product dry!
Be sure to recharge these batteries at least once every month; when batteries sit idle for an extended period, the chemicals inside will begin to react causing a lot of damage to the insides of your battery. Be sure to use a charger that is made specifically for your battery model; if you have questions regarding which charter to use, please feel free to give Batteries Unlimited a call!
Batteries that are in storage need to be properly maintained in order for them to survive the cold winter that is ahead of us! For more information about battery maintenance programs, or if you need to purchase a new battery, please give Batteries Unlimited a call at (508) 752-8777.
