So far this winter has been a cold one…have you been properly maintaining your batteries that are in storage? If you haven’t you will be purchasing a new one come spring!
If you haven’t already, here is the proper way to maintain your batteries during winter:
- Disconnect Unused Battery
- Keep ‘Em Clean & Dry
- Recharge Battery Once Every Month
If you’re having your battery sit for a long period of time (during the winter season) it’s best policy to disconnect them; this is because some vehicles and boats use a little bit of power, even when they are turned off.
Be sure to keep your batteries dry and clean; if they are damp or dirty, corrosion may occur, which is one of biggest battery killers! You can clean your battery with a combination of baking soda and water. You will rinse it with clear water, and dry it with a towel.
An unused battery will “run out of juice” faster than a used battery, which is why it’s important to charge your battery at least once per month. Please be sure to use a charger that is made specifically for your battery brand; if you need help, we can help you select the right charger.
For more information about maintaining batteries that are in storage, please feel free to give Batteries Unlimited a call at (508) 752-8777. If you need any help finding new batteries for your boats and summer vehicles, please feel free to stop by our store in Worcester MA!
Now that summer is over, and we’re already entering into the summer season, you’re probably putting your summer toys (boats, motorcycles, four wheelers, etc.) into storage. Now that they are in storage, you probably don’t think too much about them during the summer; however, it would be a great idea to run some maintenance and checkups on the batteries, so that come spring they are ready to go.
You should disconnect the unused battery for all boats and vehicles that will not be in use until the spring. Any item that is not going to be in use for an extended period, i.e. a whole season, should have its battery disconnected; some vehicles draw a little power from their battery, even when they aren’t in use. What will this do to your vehicle? If you leave it connected, the vehicle could drain out the battery’s juice, meaning you will have to purchase a new one come spring time.
Do your best to keep batteries clean and dry during this cold and wet season! When batteries are wet or dirty, corrosion can occur, which is a battery’s biggest enemy! You can clean your batteries with a mixture of baking soda and water. Make sure you rinse with clear water, and wipe the product dry!
Be sure to recharge these batteries at least once every month; when batteries sit idle for an extended period, the chemicals inside will begin to react causing a lot of damage to the insides of your battery. Be sure to use a charger that is made specifically for your battery model; if you have questions regarding which charter to use, please feel free to give Batteries Unlimited a call!

We are sad to report that summer is over, and it is officially the start of fall! Many people don’t know what to do with their boat’s battery during the winter.
Do we leave it in the storage garage, do we store it someplace warm, what about leaving it on auto charge?
All of these are great questions! Here at Batteries Unlimited, we suggest not leaving your battery with your boat, in the cold storage unit. People who leave their batteries in a cold storage unit, find themselves purchasing new batteries every spring, which is great of our business, but we want to do everything in our power to help our clients’ batteries last long!
If you do decide to leave it in a cold storage unit, we suggest leaving your battery on auto-recharge. That way your battery gets some action during the dead cold of winter, instead of just sitting their dead. If you have absolutely no place for your boat battery other than the storage unit, make sure to leave the battery on auto recharge!!
The best advice we have for boat owners is to take the battery out and store it in a warmer place; usually someplace in your home, like your basement will do the trick. You still should charge it every once in awhile so that it isn’t idle all winter!
Of course if your boat battery is already dead, there’s nothing you can do, but purchase a new one! We sell plenty of marine batteries, for great prices; our associates will help you find the right battery!

When you’re looking into purchasing a new battery for your laptop, here are some steps to follow to make the process quick and easy! Following these steps are important, because if you purchase the wrong batter, you can really harm your laptop.
Follow these tips below, and you’re well on you way to purchasing the right battery for your laptop:
- Know your laptop name and model. We are sure you know the name of your laptop, i.e. Dell, Sony, etc. but knowing the exact model number can help us find the battery you’re looking for.
- Write down the old battery’s model number. Sometimes you can’t find the laptop model number, if this is the case, check your old battery, often times than not, the battery itself will have a model number. This is probably the best and most accurate way to get the battery you’re looking for.
- As soon as you have either the battery model, laptop model, or both, give us a call and we will run the model numbers through our system.
- Double check your work. Once we find the battery based on the model number you gave to us, we will repeat the model back to you, just to be 100% sure we have the same model number.
Purchasing a new battery for your laptop will be quick and easy! If you’re having trouble finding both the laptop and battery models, bring the laptop to our store, and we will do our best to find the matching battery!
